My first encounter with Three Notch and Dr. Pilkerton was a few months after moving here in 2012 for my geriatric Himalayan named Hobbes. He had a cardiac murmur, arthritis, HTN and renal failure. He had stopped drinking and urinating over the previous 24 hours and was added on to Dr. Pilkerton' s schedule as an emergency. I was prepared to put him down that day, had completed the euthanasia consent form and paid the applicable fees. It was under these circumstances that I met Dr. Pilkerton. She respected my view that I didn't want to have Hobbes endure a myriad of tests and treatments and that my focus was on palliative and comfort care. She inquired if I'd be willing to have Hobbes undergo some bloodwork and an X-ray, try some prednisolone and give Hobbes a few days to see if his intake and output improved prior to euthanizing him. Hobbes spent close to 3 additional years with me receiving palliative care at home with subcutaneous fluids, steroids, BP medication and reflux medication. As his health status changed and he became more resistant to receiving fluids, Dr. Pilkerton worked with me to identify the interventions that would allow Hobbes to have quality of life and eliminate those that he began fighting. I ultimately needed to have Hobbes put down in May of 2015 when he was 17. The day when he presented with obvious pain and distress was a day that Dr. Pilkerton was off. I spoke with her and she consented to come in on her day off to be the vet to euthanize my beloved Hobbes. She was extremely gracious and compassionate to sacrifice some of her personal time to be present the day I needed to say goodbye to my Hobbes. She has continued to provide phenomenal care to my other felines Ella and Noelle. Noelle recently presented with alopecia following a grooming session in April. She is a 7 year old Persian and the area of fur along her spine was not growing back. Some bloodwork was done and Noelle was identified as neutropenic with no other abnormalities noted on her bloodwork or physical exam. Dr. Pilkerton advised repeat labs to verify if her neutropenia persisted or was a lab error. Noelle remained neutropenic which brought up discussions regarding FIV and FeLV. I opted to stop by the practice on a return trip home the other day to speak with Dr. Pilkerton regarding her thought processes, concerns and possible treatments for Noelle. I didn't have a formal appointment but Dr. Pilkerton took time to speak with me in between patient visits. I inquired if the lab still had access to Noelle's blood sample from a few days prior to test for markers for FIV and FeLV. They confirmed that they did and that they would attempt to run these tests which would hopefully save Noelle an additional visit to the vet for bloodwork and provide greater insight into a differential diagnosis for Noelle's neutropenia. I have never encountered another vet who has been so willing to sacrifice a portion of her personal time and speak with me when my feline didn't have an official appointment. She has demonstrated compassion, knowledge and professionalism during each encounter with my 3 felines over the past 5 years. She recognizes and respects that my felines are viewed as family and that my focus for their care is quality of life over quantity of life. She is a phenomenal practitioner who I trust without reservations. I am extremely thankful that she is the vet for Ella and Noelle. Her love and compassion for the animals and families is obvious. Thank you Dr. Pilkerton for being available during the challenging moments and routine moments of the care of felines.

Our dog Jack was diagnosed with Lymphoma. We were devastated. Dr. Madison gave us a chemo protocol and treated Jack. He went into remission. The cancer returned & she did a modified version of the protocol and he is again in remission. He acts like a puppy at the ripe old age of 10 & he never suffered any side effects. She truly is the best doctor for our four legged friends. Her bed side manner and care and concern for our family, our finances and most importantly our pet is the most compassionate I have ever seen. Thank you Dr. Madison for saving our boy....he's been in remission for quite some time now and she is assisting us in keeping it that way.

We have used 3-Notch for all of our pets since arriving in Maryland in 1984. Two dogs, four cats. Care has always been loving, and caring. Dr. O'Conner is a true gem. Perfectly willing to "hold our hand" as our pets needed care and passed on. I cannot say too much.

Dr. Langford has been our lab's vet since we moved to southern Maryland eight years ago. He is always very kind and thorough and genuinely cares. Without a doubt Three Notch Veterinary Hospital provides the best customer service of any business we've dealt with in St. Mary's county. Thank you!

Dear Dr. Langford,
Thank you for your persistence which ultimately led to diagnosing Heidi's ruptured disc. This not only saved her weeks of pain, but also helped to expedite her journey through surgery and recovery. She is now home and resting comfortably! If she could talk she would surely be saying, "Ah, life is good, thanks to Dr. Langford"!

Thank you again!

Gratefully,
Donna and Heidi Kille

P.S. You're the best!

All of the staff is absolutely amazing! Very nice, warm people, also very professional & caring! They explained what was to come in the next few days so that we understood everything regarding our little Cheech.I think our little guy is going to be going through quite A bit & I am certain there is no better place that I would feel as confident and comfortable with his care as I do with Three Notch.Amanda at the front desk made the appointment for us & was very sweet. All of the girls that were working at the front desk when we were there today were wonderful.Unfortunately I didn't get their names but they know who they are :) .Melodie was our Tech & she was very professional & really great with Cheech. She treated him with kindness and was very sweet with him.Dr Yasuda is A wonderful vet.She had seen Cheech A couple of years prior & figured out A problem that had us so worried! She was right on with the diagnosis. She had A very clever way to show us how she came to the relults. When I called to make the appointment I hoped that she would be taking care of him. When she walked in the examination room I was so happy to see her.I am confident that he will receive the best care & course of action that will be needed to get him through what is ahead! Also I have many friends who have used Three Notch for years and I have heard only the very best about all of the Dr's and staff! I have and will continue to recommend them highly! After all our pets are our family & they deserve the very best! Yup Three Notch *is the very best!*

I have a newly adopted pet and brought him to Three Notch after hearing of their great reputation. Dr. Langford and Dr. Feldhaus have been wonderful in helping us work through some of out dog's lingering pre-adoption health issues.

Top to bottom, this is a thoroughly professional vet hospital, staffed with exceptional physicians, techs and support staff. They have advanced diagnostic and surgical equipment and keep their staff abreast of the latest medical advancements through various forms of professional development. They have been our veterinarians and our friends for years and we highly recommend them to everyone.

They have a great staff all around. My primary vets are Dr. Ironmonger and Dr. Langford. They are both awesome. I am amazed at how patient Dr. Ironmonger is with me as well as Dr. Langford and it is really, really appreciated. I don't know the names of the techs and front office (just Dee who always makes me smile) and I will have to pay more attention to that BUT they are all friendly and very helpful. A good place to go.

The complete staff at Three Notch is wonderful. Dr Pilkerton was our primary vet and was very professional, honest, down to earth and compassionate from the first time we met her, and especially when our precious dog Buddie's health was failing. When she wasn't available we saw whichever vet was available and received the same wonderful treatment. Jessica and Dee are most likely the best receptionist (don't know their proper title or position, so if I'm wrong, I apologize to them both) I have ever had to deal with on an office staff. After Buddie passed and we adopted another rescue I couldn't think of anyone or anywhere I would rather take her than to Three Notch and their wonderful staff. I highly recommend them to anyone who I know is looking for a vet.

We took our 11 year old Golden Retriever to Dr. Matteson for evaluation after she suffered a seizure on 6/25/15. We had just recently had recently decided to change vets so this was a first visit for us. The level of care and compassion was unlike any veterinarian clinic we have ever seen. Dr. Matteson and the staff are genuinely interested in the health and comfort of our dog, and at the same time, very helpfull in making us feel at ease about a very scary situation. Dr. Matteson even called the next day to check on her progress and it was evident she truly cared. It was not just a required phone call but very genuine and she helped to make me feel better. Our girl has suffered five more seizures within three days and we are headed to a referred Neurologist. We are hopeful for a positive outcome, but irregardless, we want to thank Dr. Matteson and her staff for being the best Veternarian clinic we've used in our dogs 11 years.

I have been bringing my Beagle Buddy here for several years now (wish I had come here before that!!). The doctors here are great, caring, careful and outstanding professionally. The office staff and the techs are also caring and professional--very nice!. Buddy has atypical Cushing's disease, epilepsy and had a ruptured disc when he was 1, so he is complicated. Dr. Langford and Dr. Yasuda are the doctors we have seen the most, although we have met two others. I am completely happy with the doctors and the care Buddy has received and have great trust in the doctors here. Thanks to all of you for all you do!

We have been with Three Notch since moving into the area 13 years ago. We stay loyal clients because of great receptionists like Dee and Jessica and of course for who we consider the best vets we have ever trusted our fur kids to: Dr. O'Conner and Dr. Yasuda who are our frequent flier vets as well as all the other vets we have seen over the years.

Dr. Bennet has been my family's number one choice as our pets doctor for many years. I just recieved my first dog and took her in to see Dr. Bennet and she has been so kind and so very helpful. All animals love her and trust her and that is obvious by their behavior around her. She is an amazing woman with a true gift and your furry friends would be lucky to have such an amazing doctor!

We live almost an hour away and would still never dream of taking our dogs anywhere else. Dr. Pilkerton, Dr. Conner, Dr. Feldhaus, Dr. Yusada, and Dr. Langford are awesome. They not only take exceptional care of our babies, but they show compassion towards us. We have four dogs. One has Lyme's disease, one has incontinence issues, and one has epilepsy, laryngeal paralysis disease, and enzymes for Lyme's (he's a mess). My fourth dog is the oldest and perfectly healthy. We know time is short for our male with the multiple health issues and the staff at Three Notch knows we have a tough decision coming. They helped us with that decision in 2007 with our beloved Newt and I know they will help us this time and share in our time of grief.

The staff, including the receptionists up front are awesome and I would recommend anyone looking for a good vet to go here. They treat our pets as if they are their own. We love, love, love Three Notch Vet!!!!

I have had the honor of knowing Dr. Langford for over 25 years. He has taken care of four of my labradors. He goes well beyond office visits, especially when your beloved pet is critical and dying. I know I would trust him with my pet's life. The 3 notch staff is also outstanding. They are caring and gentle with your pets. They take their time and always have time to answer your questions. I trust 3 Notch with my pets.

I would like to Thank Dr,Bennett and staff from the bottom of my heart. New to the area, I took my big baby, Speedy G for a sick visit. I had no idea what was about to happen. He was very sick and couldn't be fixed. Dr Bennett treated him like he was her's. I lost Speedy that day and the kindness that she showed me, helped me with his passing. he staff was sweetest I've ever seen. It took me a week to even call back to choose to pick him up, my heart is still broke. Ive been to a lot of vets, but never felt the warmth of Dr. Bennett and staff. I'm going to adopt a special four legged buddy again, I wouldn't consider anybody else now that I found Dr Bennett. Thank you so much, Anna Hoyer

The staff at Three Notch Veterinary are great - especially Dee and Dr. Matteson!! I have taken my Chow Chow's there for over 17 years. Dr. Matteson's knowledge and skills with our dogs has been nothing short of amazing. When it came time to have our first chow Chelsea,(at age 14+) to get help to cross over to the Rainbow Bridge, we couldn't have asked for anyone or any place to be more compassionate and caring. Now that we have our second one, Lexi, I wouldn't think of taking her anyplace else. Three Notch Veterinary knows the true meaning that our pets are part of our family. :)

It is because of all of them that our pets have had a long and happy life.
